I love a good coffee. There’s something about that first sip in the morning that just makes everything feel better. Lately, I’ve been playing around with ways to make my daily cup a little more fun, and this orange cardamom syrup has quickly become my favorite.
Orange has always been one of my dad’s favorite flavors, and I think that’s why I love it so much too. It’s bright, cozy, and a little nostalgic. Pairing it with cardamom felt like the perfect move: citrusy and fresh, but also warm and spiced. Exactly what I want in my coffee.
This syrup is simple to make, but it feels special. You can stir it into hot or iced coffee, drizzle it over oatmeal, or even use it in cocktails. And bonus: the orange slices you simmer in the syrup turn into a treat on their own (you can snack on them later, peel and all).
Orange Cardamom Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 orange, sliced into rounds
6–8 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed (or ½ tsp ground cardamom)
Instructions:
Add the water and sugar to a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Add the orange slices and cardamom pods. Lower the heat and let it gently simmer for about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and let it steep for 15–20 minutes so the flavors really infuse.
Strain the syrup into a jar or bottle, then transfer the orange slices to a separate container to save for snacking.
Store the syrup in the fridge for up to two weeks.
To use, just stir 1-2 tablespoons into your coffee (or more if you like it sweeter). It’s bright, cozy, and makes your morning coffee feel instantly upgraded.
